SSAT & ISEE Prep FAQ

Everything you need to know about LexiMap and how it helps your child prepare for the SSAT and ISEE.

What is LexiMap?
LexiMap is a quest-based vocabulary training app designed specifically for SSAT and ISEE test prep. Instead of rote flashcards, it teaches 166 Latin and Greek root words through 9 interactive game modes — drag-drop, tap-select, swipe, and more — organized into short quest sessions with spaced repetition powered by the FSRS algorithm.
How does root-based learning work?
Root-based learning teaches the building blocks of English words. A single Latin or Greek root like "bene" (good) unlocks the meaning of benefactor, beneficial, benediction, and dozens of other words. By mastering 166 roots, students gain the tools to decode thousands of unfamiliar words on test day — even words they have never studied directly. Learn more on our methodology page.
What grade levels does LexiMap support?
LexiMap supports students in grades 4 through 12. Content is calibrated across all six SSAT and ISEE test levels: Elementary Level (grades 3–4), Middle Level (grades 5–7), Upper Level (grades 8–11), and the corresponding ISEE levels. The app automatically adjusts word difficulty and game complexity based on the selected test level.
How is LexiMap different from Quizlet or other flashcard apps?
Flashcard apps test recognition of one word at a time. LexiMap teaches the underlying root system that connects entire word families. Each root is practiced through multiple skill types — matching, construction, context, and more — so knowledge transfers to unfamiliar words. The FSRS spaced repetition algorithm targets a 89.6% long-term retention rate, optimizing review timing rather than relying on short-term cramming.
Does LexiMap cover both the SSAT and ISEE?
Yes. LexiMap's 166 roots cover approximately 76% of vocabulary tested across both the SSAT (synonyms and analogies) and the ISEE (synonyms and sentence completion). The root-based approach is effective for both tests because they draw from the same Latin and Greek etymological foundations.
How quickly will my child see results?
Most students notice improved word recognition within 2 weeks of consistent daily practice (10–15 minutes per day). After 6 weeks, students typically demonstrate measurable vocabulary growth and increased confidence with unfamiliar words. For optimal SSAT/ISEE score improvement, we recommend starting prep at least 8–12 weeks before the test date.
How much does LexiMap cost?
LexiMap offers three plans: Monthly ($39.99/month), Annual ($149.99/year — save 69%), and Lifetime ($199.99 one-time payment). All plans include full access to every root, game mode, and test level. Family plans are included at no extra cost, so one subscription covers all your children. See full details on our pricing page.
Is there a free trial?
Yes. Every new account starts with a free trial that gives your child full access to all features. You can explore the root word library, try every game mode, and see the spaced repetition system in action before choosing a plan.
Does LexiMap work offline?
Yes. LexiMap is a Progressive Web App (PWA) that caches content for offline use. Your child can complete quests without an internet connection. Learning events are stored locally and automatically sync when connectivity returns, so no progress is ever lost.
What is spaced repetition and how does LexiMap use it?
Spaced repetition is a scientifically proven study technique that schedules reviews at increasing intervals based on how well a student knows each item. LexiMap uses the FSRS (Free Spaced Repetition Scheduler) algorithm, configured to target a 89.6% long-term retention rate. The system automatically identifies which roots need review and presents them at the optimal time for memory consolidation. Read more in our blog articles on study strategies.
Can multiple children use one account?
Yes. LexiMap includes family plans at no extra cost. One parent account can manage multiple child profiles, each with their own test level, progress tracking, and spaced repetition schedule. Every child gets a personalized learning experience.
Is there a parent dashboard?
Yes. The parent dashboard lets you monitor each child's progress, including roots mastered, quest sessions completed, daily streaks, and mastery trends over time. You can see exactly how your child is progressing without needing to look over their shoulder.
